Nestled in the southwestern corner of Wales, Pembrokeshire is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Known for its stunning coastline, charming villages, and rich history, this county offers a plethora of activities and sights for visitors. While popular spots like Tenby and St. Davids draw in crowds, there is a whole other side to Pembrokeshire that remains untouched by mass tourism. As a local, I have had the pleasure of exploring this beautiful county and uncovering some hidden gems that are off the beaten path. In this blog post, I will share with you some of my favorite off-the-beaten-path adventures in Pembrokeshire.
1. Walk the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
The Pembrokeshire Coast Path is a 186-mile long trail that follows the county’s stunning coastline. While many visitors may opt to walk a small section of the path, I highly recommend tackling the entire thing. It takes around two weeks to complete, but the views and experiences along the way make it well worth it. From rugged cliffs to sandy beaches, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path showcases some of the most beautiful landscapes in the UK. Along the way, you’ll also pass through charming villages and have the opportunity to spot wildlife such as seals, dolphins, and seabirds.
2. Explore the Preseli Hills
Tucked away in the northern part of Pembrokeshire, the Preseli Hills offer a tranquil escape from the bustling tourist areas. This beautiful range of hills is rich in history and is believed to be the source of the bluestones used in the construction of Stonehenge. A hike through the Preseli Hills will take you through ancient woodlands, past standing stones, and up to the summit of Foel Cwmcerwyn, the highest point in Pembrokeshire. On a clear day, you can see as far as Ireland from the top.
3. Visit the Little Haven Secret Beach
While Little Haven is a popular spot for visitors, there is a hidden beach that many people don’t know about. To reach this secluded spot, you’ll need to walk down a steep path and climb over some rocks, but the reward is well worth it. This secret beach is a peaceful haven with crystal clear water and golden sand. It’s the perfect spot for a picnic or a quiet swim away from the crowds.
4. Take a Boat Trip to Skomer Island
Skomer Island is a wildlife lover’s paradise and a must-visit for any nature enthusiast. This small island, located just off the coast of Pembrokeshire, is home to a variety of seabirds, including puffins, guillemots, and razorbills. The best way to reach Skomer is by taking a boat trip from Martin’s Haven. The island has limited daily visitors, so it’s best to book your trip in advance.
