The ruined castle of Montgomery was built in the 11th century by Roger de Montgomery, the first Earl of Shrewsbury. The castle was badly damaged during the English Civil War in the 17th century, and today only the earthworks and foundations remain.

The ruined castle of Dolforwyn was built in the 13th century by Llywelyn the Great, the Prince of Wales. The castle was captured by the English in 1267, and today only the earthworks and foundations remain.
